EU AI Act: Time to Act Despite Delayed Requirements

The EU AI Act continues to shape how organizations develop and use AI. Although some high-risk AI requirements have been postponed, several important obligations are already in effect.

What applies now?

Organizations must comply with existing requirements, including restrictions on certain high-risk AI practices, AI literacy obligations, and requirements for providers of general-purpose AI models. From August 2026, new transparency requirements also apply, including informing users when they interact with AI and appropriately labeling AI-generated content.

What has been delayed?

The full requirements for standalone high-risk AI systems have been postponed to December 2027, while AI integrated into regulated products has been given until August 2028.

Why should businesses act now?

The delay provides more time to prepare, but it is not a reason to pause. Organizations should start mapping their AI systems, assessing risks, and reviewing their compliance responsibilities.
