From Pilot to Impact: How Södertälje Municipality Accelerates AI & BI

This week we attended Fujitsu’s breakfast seminar at their Gothenburg office, focused on AI, BI, and how to successfully embed these capabilities in large organizations, including those operating within the public sector.
One of the most interesting parts was hearing from Södertälje Municipality, who shared a challenge many organizations recognize: Forecasts show they won’t have enough employees to meet society’s future needs. For them, AI and BI aren’t “nice to have” initiatives—they’re becoming critical to sustaining service delivery and capacity.
What stood out: bringing the whole organization along
A key theme was how they’re working to involve the entire organization, rather than relying only on “AI champions” and early adopters. That approach is often what separates scattered pilots from real, scalable impact.
Two key takeaways we loved
Agile teams + short feedback loops: Fast pathways from decision-makers → delivery teams → results. Less friction, more learning, faster value creation.
Outsourcing development to accelerate execution: They’ve chosen not to build everything internally. Instead, they bring in external experts (in this case Fujitsu) to drive projects forward—allowing them to:
start faster
avoid long recruitment and onboarding cycles
reduce load on internal teams so people can focus on core responsibilities
access specialist expertise immediately
Our reflection (and why this matters)
At UltraDefy, we strongly relate to this setup. Getting real outcomes from AI often requires speed, structure, and delivery power, and external teams can be the catalyst that turns ambition into execution.
It’s genuinely inspiring to see public sector organizations taking the lead and proving that AI/BI can be used to maximize resources, boost efficiency, and build resilience for what’s ahead.
If your AI initiative is stuck due to skills gaps, limited capacity, or slow internal momentum: consider bringing in an external team to accelerate delivery. It can be the difference between a pilot and true transformation.
